I’ve lived most of my adult life thinking that German girls and lawyers are two peas in the same pod. In the same way that beautiful German girls turn into Swabian housewives on the eve of their 30th birthdays (bitter personal experience, twice), people also seemed to experience a similarly negative transformation as they obtain their law degrees.

My old friend Dominic Lewis was a rare exception to that rule. About 15 years later I found another one, Ron Zollman, who then introduced me to another cool lawyer, Eric Lane, in New York, and then my young cousin Jack went and qualified…

Much of this week’s work at the Founders Institute has focused on the legal aspects of setting up FFLOK. That actually led me to meet two new lawyers in Paris who are also ridiculously cool people… Damien Gorse and Emmanuelle Farhat are now officially the straws that have broken the camel’s back and who have now forced me to conclude that lawyers are, all in all, pretty darn ok. I wonder if I’ll still think the same when I start getting their bills?!

Even more beautiful
Than the last photo is our new logo. There are still a few modifications to make, but I wanted to give you an early glimpse on how it's shaping up… please do let me know your thoughts.

There were 3 other key things to do last week…
|
|
Being José Mourinho
The first was to choose and reach out to various people to be advisors and mentors. After chatting with my other co-founder, I have reached out to 6 advisors and there is one extra mentor I’d like to secure. It feels like being a manager of a football club and I’m rather excited about announcing some high profile signings in the not too distant future!

New world, new tools!
The second was developing the first “product sprint”. This is basically building the first version of representation of our solution in a two week period… that’s forcing me to learn all about wonderful tools such as Unbounce, Instapage, Powtoon, Google Analytics and Mailchimp.

The Who, no, not them
The final task this week has been to write the initial job descriptions and on-boarding plan for our first employees. In addition to his product sprint guidance, Erfane Arwani has also been a godsend when it came to this topic. Despite having done hundreds of interviews over the last 17 years, I found his book recommendation, “Who” by Geoff Smart and Randy Street, ridiculously useful.

And so for next week, I have just checked the schedule. It seems like I’m going to have to wait a little longer before I get to lie on a sun lounger and paint my nails… this week’s focus is all about product development and backlog. More anon next week.
Thanks again to you all for your support, guidance and responsiveness whenever I ask for help. You’re an impressive bunch!
